Real-time computational photon- counting LiDAR

چکیده
The availability of compact, low-cost, and high-speed MEMS-based spatial light modulators has generated widespread interest in alternative sampling strategies for imaging systems utilizing single-pixel detectors. The development of compressed sensing schemes for real-time computational imaging may have promising commercial applications for high-performance detectors, where the availability of focal plane arrays is expensive or otherwise limited. We discuss the research and development of a prototype light detection and ranging (LiDAR) system via direct time of flight, which utilizes a single high-sensitivity photon-counting detector and fast-timing electronics to recover millimeter accuracy three-dimensional images in real time. The development of low-cost real time computational LiDAR systems could have importance for applications in security, defense, and autonomous vehicles. © 2017 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) [DOI: 10.1117/1.OE.57.3.031304]

Fraunhofer Lidar Prototype in the Green Spectral Region for Atmospheric Boundary Layer Observations
A lidar detects atmospheric parameters by transmitting laser pulse to the atmosphere and receiving the backscattering signals from molecules and aerosol particles. Because of the small backscattering cross section, a lidar usually uses the high sensitive photomultiplier and avalanche photodiode as detector and uses photon counting technology for collection of weak backscatter signals. Photon Co...
متن کاملA Very Low Power, Highly Integrated Multichannel Scaler
Multichannel Scaler (MCS) electronics are often used in lidar-based photon counting applications. The NASA SBIR Phase-I effort resulted in a highly integrated, low power, USB-based MCS hardware prototype and Windows-based software. The Phase-II project focused on expanding the Phase-I MCS development in creating a complete flexible lidar data acquisition “system-on-a-card." Key motivations in t...
متن کاملRapid, Globally Contiguous, High Resolution, 3d Topographic Mapping of Planetary Moons Using a Scanning Photon-counting Lidar
Introduction: Photon-counting lidar altimeters and imagers are the most efficient possible since each range measurement requires only one detected photon as opposed to hundreds or thousands in conventional laser pulse time of flight (TOF) altimeters. The GLAS altimeter on ICESat-I, for example, has a minimum detectable signal corresponding to roughly 100 photoelectrons but can produce in excess...
متن کاملPhoton counting compressive depth mapping
We demonstrate a compressed sensing, photon counting lidar system based on the single-pixel camera. Our technique recovers both depth and intensity maps from a single under-sampled set of incoherent, linear projections of a scene of interest at ultra-low light levels around 0.5 picowatts. Only two-dimensional reconstructions are required to image a three-dimensional scene. We demonstrate intens...

During last two decades, several photon counting detectors have been developed in our laboratory. One of the most promising detector coming from our group silicon K14 Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) is presented with its valuable features and space applications. Based on the control electronics, it can be operated in both gated and non-gated mode. Although it was designed for photon counti...
